The Avantidrome will play host to its first international cycling event next month when the BikeNZ Cup and BikeNZ Classic get under way.
Three days of racing will see New Zealand’s track cyclists take on at least four other nations on the boards at the Avantidrome.
Having hosted the Elite and Under-19 Track Cycling Championships earlier this year, the September 18-20 racing will be the second big event held at the track.
It should prove a good hit out for sprint riders ahead of the Oceania Track Cycling Championships in Adelaide in October.
A final schedule for racing is yet to be decided upon, but it is understood that the programme will be sprint orientated, with few opportunities to race for endurance riders.
New Zealand world and Commonwealth team sprint champions Sam Webster, Ethan Mitchell and Eddie Dawkins are expected to compete, alongside Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Matt Archibald.
The women’s sprint team will also be on show, as will New Zealand’s top under-19 riders, fresh from the World Championships in South Korea earlier this month.
